Durham Constabulary and Medical Examinations

“In partnership with Durham Constabulary and after consultation with Durham County Council following the publication of a Domestic Homicide Review, County Durham & Darlington LMC has agreed to pilot a new process for providing medical information about applicants for firearms certificates”

Firearms UK are of the same view expressed by some other organisations in that Durham Constabulary and County Durham & Darlington LMC have exceeded their remit and that requirements under existing law only require a disclosure of medical conditions. Application authorities must then make judgement if the opinion of Medical Practitioners is to be sought.

Firearms UK advise that any applicant who is approached to participate in this trial contacts any Shooting Organisation they may be a member of and seek opinion and assistance, or seek independent legal advice from a specialist law firm before accepting any obligation to comply with the trial.

Facebook and Instagram

VentureBeat, an American media outlet has reported on a US petition raised by ‘Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ and ‘Moms Demand Action’ in which the Social Media network Facebook is lobbied to prohibit gun themed pages on sites it owns, Facebook itself and Instagram.

The article is US focused and relates directly to matters that arose within the US however if Facebook, who are ‘in negotiations’ with the petitioners and as stated discussions are ongoing and there have been positive developments suggesting talks from the petitioners perspective are favourable?

This must be a matter of concern to UK shooters and those who have both shooting related personal pages and of course the shooting organisations, Distributors, Retailers, etc own offerings via Facebook and Instagram.

If Facebook via their own site and that of Instagram relent and prohibit gun themed and firearms related pages in the US it is going to be a fairly short time afterwards, indeed if not at the same time that there is pressure brought to bear to implement the same regime to Facebook, etc internationally. The UK will potentially become a prime target for this when we consider the anti gun position so prevalent in this country already?

It has to be said that the division and lack of real support by some UK elements of shooting whilst they may not be immediately and directly detrimental they will certainly not help if, or perhaps more likely when, this becomes a real threat of definitive action.

Firearms UK campaigns for unity in shooting, to bring together and lobby for and on behalf of all those who are involved through whatever aspect of the subject and we will watch this closely and see if a response is required to future developments affecting the UK. We will also continue to offer our appropriate support to international groups.

We will monitor developments in this are and keep you informed.

EU Elections 2014, Letter to MP

As part of our campaign for the 2014 European Union elections; Here is the Body of Text which may form the basis of a submission to an MP. It may be copied and pasted, used as presented or edited for individual preference.

The purpose of this letter is to highlight with yourself, and your respective Political Party of my awareness of the upcoming European Elections on 22nd May 2014, and the UK General Election 2015.

Respectfully one requests that you support the Rights, Liberties and Freedoms of UK shooters by expressing your intention to lobby against any further unwarranted restriction to be imposed in a country that already has some of the tightest controls on private firearms ownership and use anywhere in the world.

As a Member of Parliament representing my interests through the democratic process one personally feels that any elected Parliamentary member who themselves feel unable to support UK based shooting in its entirety and unable to resist any further legislation European or Domestic limiting rights, liberties and freedoms will no longer be in receipt of any voting right afforded oneself as a UK subject and exercised at the polling booth.

Closer to the UK General Election 2015 I will write to you again to remind you of my point of view and how it may influence my voting decisions. I have also made written submission on this subject to the Member of the European Parliament representing my interests.

Please join with me to promote the safe, responsible ownership and use of firearms with the minimum of restriction and let us together continue to contribute to the wealth and prosperity of the UK.

May I thank you in anticipation of an objective approach to this subject.

Sincerely

EU Elections 2014, Letter to MEP

As part of our campaign for the 2014 European Union elections; Here is the Body of Text which may form the basis of a submission to an MEP. It may be copied and pasted, used as presented or edited for individual preference.

The purpose of this letter is to highlight with yourself, and your respective Political Party of my awareness of the upcoming European Elections on 22nd May 2014.

The European Union, in addition to certain domestic parties propose and encourage further detrimental action towards the shooting sports and discipline’s, and an individuals’ Rights, Liberties and Freedoms in relation to private firearms ownership.

Shooting Organisations have written directly to the European Commission expressing their dismay that UK private firearms owners, as law abiding people are once again under potential attack for no legitimate reason, the proposed EU onslaught likely emanating as a result of a biased and subjective EU survey on criminal firearms activity of which one is confident you are aware.

Respectfully one requests that you support UK shooters by expressing your intention to lobby against any further unwarranted restriction to be imposed in a country that already has some of the tightest controls on private firearms ownership and use anywhere in the world.

As an MEP representing my interests through the democratic process one personally feels that any elected European Parliamentary member who themselves feel unable to support UK based shooting in its entirety and unable to resist any further legislation from the EU limiting Rights, Liberties and Freedoms will no longer be in receipt of any voting right afforded to myself as a UK subject, and exercised at the polling booth.

Please join with me to promote the safe, responsible ownership and use of firearms with the minimum of restriction and let us together continue to contribute to the wealth and prosperity of the UK.

May I thank you in anticipation of an objective, and positive approach to this subject.
